廢話

I just got back from the cheapo ABC Bargain Store near my place. YK and I decided to just drop by and get some budget anti-bacterial wipes (only $0.60!). Apparently we got more than what we asked for. A little episode of drama between cashier and customer.

The cashier manning the cash register for tonight was some PRC FT. The fella in front of us was a typical local Ah Beng, who was strangely buying ALOT of Yupi Gummy Bears alongside a whole array of assorted candies.

After much deliberation on her calculator, PRC FT: "誒,你先給我$5.45。"

Ah Beng hands her $7. FT gives him change of $1.45. For some enigmatic reason, FT continues to punch away on the calculator as the queue gets longer with Minahs coming in to buy pads. Awkward silence...

FT: "這裡的東西一共$6.50。"

Ah Beng: "Uh-huh..." I think any of my P3 kid, with the divine help of a calculator, can deduce that Ah Beng needs to pay another $1.05.

(brace yourselves for the ultimate stupid question of the year)

FT: "這些東西你全都要買嗎?"

Ah Beng: "不然我拿來這裡做什麼?"

FT: "你要買多少錢的東西?" OMGWTFBBQ? Our jaws' on the floor now...

Ah Beng (a little pek-cek now):"我給了你多少錢?"

FT, now flustered, continues to punch on her calculator. I dunno where's the rocket science here. But Minah-buying-Whispers, YK and I were getting a little impatient.

(brace yourselves for the 2nd ultimate stupid question of the year)

FT: "這些東西你全都要買嗎?" 沒錯,你沒看錯。那傢伙又問了一次。Ah Beng, after waiting for so long, is obviously pissed by now.

Ah Beng: "廢話!"

FT (after using some complex algorithm to calculate the change, with the divine help of a calculator): "那你要多給我$1.05."

Ah Beng FLINGS the two dimes on the counter and muttered: "CCB..." Sudden awkward silence again and the rest of us in the queue all froze.

FT retaliates by slamming all that poor gummy bears into the plastic bag. As Ah Beng sweeps up his things and walked out of the store, the FT muttered (audible enough for YK and I): "真沒看過有人這樣買東西的。"

YK and I (in our minds quietly): "真沒看過有人這樣算錢的..." Lucky our items sum up nicely to $2, and we had a $2 note. Don't need to use her algorithm.

Oh man, I miss that Singaporean auntie who used to man the counter.
